Easy Definition to Remember

Verb forms are the different forms of a verb that allow us to express time (tense), grammatical function, and agreement with the subject.

The five basic verb forms are:

  1. V1 – Base Form

  2. V2 – Past Simple

  3. V3 – Past Participle

  4. V4 – Present Participle (-ing form)

  5. V5 – Third Person Singular Present

Learning these five forms is essential because all English tenses, the passive voice, and many other grammar structures are built from them.
